AMC Clip Man
The AMC Clip Man is a tribute to the well-known icon of AMC Movie Theaters, awarded to top corporate ACM executives.
Artwork was developed to replicate a film strip, including center squares (cells) representing still images, small squares representing sprocket perforations which would thread the strip through a projector, and other fine lines to provide a realistic depiction of film. The front and back of.020 brass sheet stock were etched in an acid wash to deliver the front and back design details. After etching, the strips went through a three step cleaning process: first, they were chemically treated to remove any remaining photosensitive polymer; second, they were washed and degreased; and then finally deburred by hand to remove any sharp edges. Next, the etched strips were cut to appropriate spec size representing the body parts of the figure, machine rolled to develop the shape of each piece (e.g. the curve in the arms) and then soldered together. Finally, the etched figure was degreased, copper plated and lacquered.
The presentation of this award included a custom fabricated glass base to showcase it in Hollywood style and protect the delicate etching from potential mishandling.
